International Women's Day 2018: #PressforProgress

On 8th March, we joined the international community in celebrating International Women's Day. We're pleased to say that the second edition of Give Girls A Chance’s Women’s Day celebration was a success! There were over 100 guests in attendance including the 40 primary and secondary school girls we currently sponsor from L.E.A Primary School and JSS Durumi 2. The keynote address was given by Mrs. Ruth Oyediya Kalu who spoke about the need to press for progress in girl-child education in Nigeria and the peril that awaits if we don’t.

We were joined by 5 professional women in the Mentor’s Circle who offered words of wisdom and encouragement to the girls. Finally, the girls themselves put on a thrilling performance of song, dance and a rousing debate competition.

Sadiya Aliyu, Chief Operating Officer of Urban Shelter made a generous donation of exercise books and monetary gifts to the top performing GGAC scholars and topped it off with a cake to help us celebrate the day.

Our sincere gratitude to all who attended the event and to all who supported us in spirit. We truly appreciate you. We look forward to continuing our work and pushing for progress for the benefit of our fellow Nigerian girls. To learn how you can get involved, please visit this page.
